Life Skills Connection was awarded WIOA youth funding for KS Local Area II in July 2024. The Connect team serves eligible in school and out of school youth, ages 16-24, across 17 counties in Northeast Kansas. These counties include Riley, Geary, Clay, Washington, Marshall, Pottawatomie, Wabaunsee, Shawnee, Douglas, Franklin, Osage, Jackson, Jefferson, Atchison, Doniphan, Nemaha, and Brown. Our goal is to connect eligible Kansas youth with additional supportive services, training programs and work-based learning opportunities as well as increasing their career readiness skills.
Our staff members work as connectors—connecting youth to programs so they can gain academic and career skills and work experience. Our team will be providing supportive case management while a student is enrolled in the program as well as facilitating workshops on topics related to employability, financial literacy, and leadership just to name a few. After a student completes the program, we will provide follow up services for one year.
Students also receive monetary incentives for high school diploma/equivalency completion, career technical training program completion, certifications and TABE gains as well as for employment after they complete the program. The program also pays the students wages as they complete work experiences. As part of the funding, the Connect program is able to pay for testing and certification costs as well as books and tools or uniforms for students. Our program also offers supportive services like counseling and life coaching free of cost to participants.
Come to this lunch and learn conversation to see how the Connection team can help KSCA members and their students!
